・Okubo town is an ethnically diverse part of Shinjuku ward, which is one of
major ward in
Tokyo, and has the highest number of registered foreign
residents.
・The main area of Okubo is west side of JR Okubo station, which is surrounded
by Okubo
streets, Syokuan (literally "Job center" in Japanese) street, and
Meiji street.
・Okubo has changed many times over the years, as many people of different
ethnicities such
as Chinese, Korean, South east asian, middle eastern and
India, have moved to and from the
area.
・In the last few years, as Korean dramas have grown in popularity in Japan, so
has Korean cuture at large.
・More and more Korean restaurants and bazaars have opened in the area at
faster rate than
other Asian businesses, and as a result, Okubo has now
become known as "Korean Town".
